Communications between patients and healthcare providers (HCPs) may at times be difficult, as healthcare terminology is often complex and not easy to follow. So quality of communications is very important. For the HCP, quality might mean using everyday terms the patient can understand. It may also mean using a collaborative approach, with two-way discussion of treatment options, risks, and benefits. For the patient, it may mean asking questions to ensure full understanding. The quality of communications between a HCP and patient is critical to ensuring that patients fully adhere to their prescribed medication regimen(s).
